Hindusthan Educational and Charitable Trust was founded in the year 1992 by the eminent Industrialist and Philanthropist, Shri T.S.R Khannaiyann. The Trust is being managed by the Secretary, Smt. Sarasuwathi Khannaiyann, Joint Secretary Smt. Priya Satish Prabu and Trustee Shri.K.Sakthivel Raja. Since its inception the Trust has involved itself in benevolent activities for inculcating quality education by promoting various types of Educational Institutions.
Hindusthan College of Arts & Science pursues a philosophy of perpetual acquisition of knowledge. Apart from academic curriculum, equally important is the policy to provide value based education and to bring out the hidden potential in students that equip them to approach life with optimism. The main motive of the Hindusthan Trust is to serve the needy. The Trust adopts poor children and offers free education. It also offers assistance and guidance pertaining to higher studies. The Trust also helps them to earn a living. The Trust motivates the rankholders and toppers by providing financial assistance.

Growth and Development

The College was started in the year 1998 with 300 students with 20 faculty members and now the college has grown from strength to strength. The college has 250 teaching staffs with a total of 7400 students. There are 23 UG Programmes and 15 PG Programmes ,3 Diploma Programmes and 10 Research Departments organising M.Phil and Ph.D Programmes.  The reason for its success is the commitment,dedication and loyalty of our faculty members facilitated by philanthropic activities of the managment having a focus on delivering value based education and providing opportunities for the students to experience the excellence to face the global challenges.

Important Programmes

The College places its emphasis on Academic excellence which is the main aim of the dedicated staff and students. Every year the college strives to achieve maximum number of university ranks. The Visual Communication programme offered by HICAS is crowned to be “ The Best “ among all colleges in Western Region by the Media. The NSS Volunteers work in close association with the various social organizations serving the society. The Youth Red Cross is actively engaged in blood donation programmes and various other social services for the up-liftment of the downtrodden. National Level Seminars like EXEMPLAR, CLUSTERS, HIFEAST, BIMBAM, BIO-SUMMIT, INFO-ICONS, ASTOUND, HI-COM, etc. are some of the frequent academic activities conducted to enhance the knowledge of the students. Inter Collegiate Programmes like HILARICAS is conducted every year to encourage the students in activities other than academics. Over 100 colleges across the state and other states used to participate and win prizes upto one lakh.

Day Order System

Under the Semester pattern, the college shall work for 180 days in a year. Each Semester will consist of 90 Days of 5 working hours and the day order system is followed.

Periodical Tests

Periodical tests will be conducted for the benefit of the students. The students should appear for all the tests and show improvement. Those failing to do so will not be allowed to attend further classes until they appear for a repeat test and perform satisfactorily. Defaulters will not be allowed to appear for the university examinations.

Tutorial System

Competent and committed faculty helps the students not only in their academic activities but also in counseling them. The Tutorial System functions effectively and each lecturer personally takes care of 20 students and meet his/ her ward at least once in a fortnight. Parents are also informed periodically about the attendance, discipline, academic performance etc., of their wards.

General Rules and Regulations

  • Students shall come clean, tidy and neatly dressed.
  • Students should be in their seats in the respective classes before the first bell. Students coming late will not be permitted to attend the class.
  • The class hours for U.G. and P.G. courses will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Girls shall attend the college wearing sarees or in traditional salwar kameez. They shall not come to the college in any other dress. Boys should not come in dhotis.
  • Sitting on the parapet wall, gathering in groups at the entrance and exit, pathways and playfields, gardens and gateways are strictly forbidden.
  • Students should bring their ID card every day. The ID card should be produced on demand.
  • In case of cancellation of classes, students may go to library and not loitering around campus.
  • Student shall walk silently and in an orderly manner while moving from class to class.
  • No outsider shall be permitted to call the students without the written permission from the Head of the Department or the Principal.
  • A student shall not be absent from the class without a leave letter, which shall be sent to his/her class tutor well in advance.
  • Students who are found using drugs, smoking or found in a drunken state in the college premises will be summarily dismissed from the college.
  • The use of tobacco products are banned inside the college premises.
  • Students found guilty of using obscene language or behaving rudely towards the staff members, will be expelled from the college.
  • The Discipline Committee is empowered to question any student/s of any department if found indulging in disciplinary activities.
  • The Principal has the undisputed authority to penalize or dismiss or suspend any misbehaving student.
  • Students can meet the Principal at anytime other than class hours.
  • Students are advised not to use cell phones, pagers inside the campus.
  • Eve teasing and Ragging are Strictly Prohibited. The Students found guilty of these activities will be dealt in accordance with THE TAMILNADU PROHIBITION OF RAGGING ACT, 1997.
