B. Tech. Information Technology (Accredited by NBA)

About the Department

The department of Information Technology was Established in the year of 2002.The intake is increased to 120 during the academic year 2008. The department is recognized as permanent affiliation department by Anna University, Chennai. The department has reached the excellent milestone in the placement by placing 90 % of the students in various companies including CTS, Tech Mahindra, L&T, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, etc. The department has been established with three laboratories which are equipped with computers and printers. Broad band connection is used with 250 MBPS for Internet Facility .The academic part of department is strengthened by Four Ph.D degree holders and 25 Faculty members all with PG Qualification. The department research activity is improved by insisting faculty members to concentrate on research work and 6 of our faculty members are doing research in various areas. For updating the current scenario to our students, we organize various workshops and seminars every semester. We Invite eminent personalities from various Industries and Institutions and lend valuable information from their experiences to convey our students.




Object Oriented Programming Laboratory

The aim of the Object Oriented Programming lab is to understand the concepts of object-oriented programming and to learn C++programming language.The other impulse of this lab is to familiarize with good programming design methods for program development, particularly Top- Down design.

Data Structures and Algorithms Laboratory

The intention of Data Structures and Algorithms lab is to develop programming skills in design and implementation of data structures concepts like stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, and graphs. It is also used to apply the different data structures for implementing solutions to practical problems.

Database Base Management System Laboratory

The motivation of Database Base Management System lab is to familiarize the creation, usage of database and to have hands on experience on query language as well as procedural language like PL/SQL. It also provides a platform to design and implement a database schema for given problem domain using DDL commands and managing a data using DML commands.

Operating Systems Laboratory

The goal of Operating Systems lab is to learn shell programming, file system related system calls and various UNIX commands. It provides the exposure to implement the Interprocess communication, Deadlock avoidance concept, various CPU Scheduling Algorithms and page replacement algorithms. This lab uses open source operating system softwares like Ubuntu/OpenSUSE/Fedora/Red Hat/ Debian.

System Software Laboratory

The aim of System Software lab is to have an understanding of foundations of design of assemblers, loaders, linkers, and macro processors.

Java Programming Laboratory

The aim of Java Programming lab is to understand the fundamentals of object-oriented programming in java, including defining classes, invoking methods, using class libraries, implementing event driven as well as concurrent programming paradigms. This lab uses software like Windows/ Linux operating system and JDK 1.6(or above).

Web Technology Laboratory

The ultimate goal of Web Technology lab is to familiarize with web page design using HTML/DHTM/style sheets, creation of user interface design using Java frames and applets, implementation of dynamic web pages using server side scripting as well as writing PHP database functions. This lab uses software like HTML, Net Beans.

Object Oriented Analysis and Design Laboratory

The main aim of Object Oriented Analysis and Design lab is to understand the concepts of Object Oriented Analysis and Design skills, exposing with UML analysis and design diagrams, applying appropriate design patterns and coding for various mini projects. It is also used to compare and contrast various testing techniques. The software tools used in this lab are ArgoUML, Eclipse IDE, Visual Paradigm, Visual case and Rational Suite.

Network Programming and Management Laboratory

The intention of Network Programming and Management lab is tao make the students to understand the concept of socket programming, hands on experience on various networking protocols, familiarize with various network simulation tools and performance analyse of various routing algorithms and protocols in different layers. This lab uses software like NetBeans.

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complexengineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems anddesign system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and researchmethods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modernengineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assesssocietal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutionsin societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms ofthe engineering practice.
