OUR LABORATORY

Hindusthan College of Nursing is equipped with seven specialized nursing laboratories that are essential for providing comprehensive practical training to students. Each laboratory is designed to cater to specific areas of nursing education, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience in a controlled and supportive environment. The Nursing Foundation Laboratory serves as a fundamental space where students learn essential nursing skills, including basic patient care, hygiene, and the use of medical equipment. This foundational training is critical in preparing students for real-world clinical scenarios.

 

The college also features a Pre-Clinical Laboratory, which focuses on advanced clinical skills and simulation training. This lab allows students to practice various procedures and techniques in a safe environment, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Additionally, the Community Health Nursing Laboratory emphasizes the importance of community health and preventive care, where students engage in activities related to health promotion and education in community settings. This hands-on experience is invaluable for understanding the role of nurses in public health initiatives.

 

Moreover, specialized laboratories like the Maternal and Child Health Nursing Laboratory and the Nutrition Lab provide focused training in essential areas of nursing care. Students gain practical skills in maternal and child health, learning about prenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding, and nutrition management for different age groups. The Audio Visual Aids Laboratory enhances learning through multimedia resources, while the Computer Laboratory supports students in developing digital literacy and research skills essential for modern nursing practice. Collectively, these laboratories provide a rich learning environment that prepares students to become competent and confident nursing professionals.

LABORATORIES

• Nursing Foundation Laboratory

The heart of nursing is skill based practice. Our Nursing Foundation Lab is the practical area of the students, where they perform all nursing procedures on mannequins prior to the exposure to the clinical field. Emphasizing on hands-on practice advance nursing, CPR mannequin is available in the nursing foundation laboratory so as to improve the skills and knowledge of students. The lab is equipped with ample surgical dissecting instruments, various articles and equipment to teach different procedures to the students before sending them to the clinical areas. Our Fundamental Lab has the provision for Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE).

• Pre-Clinical Laboratory

The anatomy lab of Hindusthan College of Nursing has excellent torso, model and charts forming the basis of deeper understanding of Human Body. It is prepared to aid in better understanding of the various structures and functioning of organs and systems of the Human Body. The College of nursing also has an extensive anatomical model collection. It also has a large storage capacity for dissected preserved specimens to accommodate teaching needs. The lab is equipped with ample skeletons, model, including 3-D orienting models, and various dissecting equipment. Compound microscopes and readymade huge collection of slides are also available in the laboratory to give a better learning experience to the students.

• Community health Laboratory

Community Health Nursing (CHN) is the area of nursing in which students are prepared to meet the ever changing challenges of the health of the society and the nation. Our lab is well equipped with articles for preparing nursing students to deliver health care to the people at their doorsteps in both urban and rural communities. The first and foremost training imparted to the students is bag technique in which students are trained for assessments at home settings. These assessments include antenatal care, post-natal care, new born assessment, infant, toddler, preschoolers, adolescents, adults and elderly. Apart from bag techniques, students are taught for hemoglobin analysis using either Sahl’s Hemometer or Hemocheck. Random Blood Sugar Testing are conducted in home settings for people with diabetes mellitus.

In addition to these facilities, the community health nursing laboratory also has delivery kit to use whenever there is requirement in the community.The department has qualified faculty who are fully involved in training students in community health nursing and in promoting health and preventing illness.

• Maternal and Child Health Nursing Laboratory

We have a very well equipped Maternal and Child Health Nursing Skill Lab.The lab has latest models, simulators, instruments, sample drugs used in case of emergency labor, equipment for the management mothers during Antenatal, Intra Natal and Post Natal period. The lab has latest models, simulators, instruments, drugs, equipment for the management of mothers during Antenatal, Intra Natal and Post Natal period.

Child Health Nursing laboratory is well-equipped with the latest mannequin, articles, play materials of different age groups, charts, posters and various models to provide skills to the students of Under -Graduate students prior to their clinical posting as well as for practice session. Lab has a Neonatal Resuscitation Kit in which the Nursing students are given the opportunity to Practice NALS, so that students become competent to perform in their clinical area.

• Nutrition Laboratory

Our College provides a well-resourced Nutrition Lab for our nursing students to practice the preparation of well balanced and therapeutic diet for different age groups. The students also practice and prepare special diet for Antenatal and lactating mothers, for different disease conditions like Hypertension, Tuberculosis, Diabetes Mellitus, obesity, etc.

• Computer laboratory

Our Computer lab is equipped with 30 computers with Internet facility. During their course of training the students are given practical sessions to work on computers under the expert guidance of our Computer teachers. They practice to work with various software. Prior to clinical exposure, students perform procedures repeated in the laboratory so that they become well versed while carrying out the procedure in the clinical setting.

• Audio – Visual Aids laboratory

Audio – Visual aids communicate ideas through the ears to the mind. A.V.Aids lab is opened for the students with OHP, Flannel Board, LCD Projector, Tripod projector, computer, laptop, TV, Camera, Xerox machine, DVD player, Tape recorder, charts, models, posters and different types of boards which can provide high-tech educational media to support the teaching-learning activities of the nursing students.
