About the Department

The Department of Automobile Engineering was established in academic the year 2012.Keeping in view of the demand for automobile engineers the department has a vision to enrich the knowledge of students and update the latest technology of automobile engineering.. The department has a team of highly-qualified and well-experienced faculty and staff members of proven ability and administrative skills. They specialize in IC Engines, Alternative, Fuels, Automotive Technology, Automotive Design, Production, and Thermal & Electric Vehicles.

The Department of Automobile Engineering has got well equipped laboratories such as Engine Testing & Pollution Measurement Laboratory, Auto Scanning Laboratory, Automotive Components Laboratory, Fuels and Lubricants Laboratory In addition to this; basic laboratories such as Chassis Components, Engine Component and Vehicle Maintenance Laboratory are also there in the department. Other basic laboratories like – Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, Thermal Engineering and Metrology Lab have also been developed and is backed up by a modern workshop containing Carpentry, Smithy, Fitting, Welding, Machine Shop and Foundry Shop that cater to the needs of the students.

Through industry integrated workshops, seminars and conferences the students of automobile engineering are exposed to latest technology in designing the computer modeled and simulated components and development of new components/vehicles through relatively inexpensive process. They are encouraged to improve analytical and technical skills to gain employment in the areas such as Automotive control, Engine Design, FEA analysis, Chassis Design, CFD simulations and Vehicle Dynamics.

The future automotive engineers are motivated to be in teams of SAE(Southern India Section) and Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers.

1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization in the solution of complex engineering problems.

 

2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and Engineering sciences.

 

3. Design / Development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety and the cultural, societal and environmental considerations.

Infrastructure

Automobile Engineering Laboratory is concerned with the Life Cycle supports from Design, Manufacture, Assembly, Performance and Durability Testing of on road and off road vehicles like Car, Vans, Bus, Heavy truck and Race Cars. A key challenge for Automobile Engineers today is to design and manufacture of sustainable vehicles that meet ever-increasing safety and performance standards in a cost-effective way. In order to do this, the laboratory experiments are embrace a wide range of Basic, Fundamental and Advance level to make the student specialist in engineering skills. The laboratory has estranged into Automotive Components Lab, Fuels and Lubricants Lab, Engine and Chassis Design Centre, Performance and Testing Lab, Electrical and Electronics Wiring Lab, Vehicle Maintenance Lab, Fluid Mechanical Lab, Strength of Materials Lab and Manufacturing Lab etc., is equipped with appropriate equipments, modern instruments and diagnostics systems.

Udhayakumar Assistant Professor Engineering Design M.E., D.O.J : 01.07.2013 He is having more than 8 years of industrial experience in manufacturing field and 6 years of Teaching experience. He has published 02 papers in International Journals.  He has presented 2 papers in National conferences.  He is a member of ISTE.
3. Mr. A. Bharath Assistant Professor Automobile Engineering M.E., D.O.J : 01.06.2015 He is having more than 6 years of Teaching experience in the Field of Automobile Engineering. He has attended number of Faculty Development Programs and workshops in various Institutions .He is a member of IAENG.
4. Mr. K. Kathirvel Assistant Professor Thermal Engineering M.E., D.O.J : 01.07.2016 He is having more than 5 years of Teaching Experience. He has published 02 papers in International Journals and 03 papers in International and National conferences. He has attended significant number of workshops and FDP’s. 6. Mr. B. ArunrajKumar Assistant Professor Automobile Engineering M.E., D.O.J : 17.04.2017 He is having more than 6 years of Teaching Experience in the field of Automobile Engineering. His areas of Interest is IC engine and Design.
7. Mr. R. S. Prakash Assistant Professor Automobile Engineering M.E., D.O.J : 17.04.2017 He is having more than 7 years of Teaching Experience in the field of Automobile Engineering. He has published 04 papers in National Journals and presented papers in 04 International and 04 National conferences. He has attended number of Faculty Development Programs and workshops in Various Institutions. He is a Life Time member of ISRD, IAENG.
8. Mr. K.  Mujiburrahman Assistant Professor Automobile Engineering M.E., D.O.J : 03.07.2017 He is having more than 6 years of Teaching Experience in the field of Automobile Engineering. He has published 03 papers in International Journals and presented 01 paper in National conferences. He has attended Faculty Development Programs in IIT Bombay remote center.  He is a Life Time member of ISRD.
9. Mr. V. Ganesan Assistant Professor Automobile Engineering M.E., D.O.J : 12.07.2018 He is having more than 4 years of Teaching Experience in the Field of Automobile Engineering. He has attended one International Conference. His area of Interest is thermal Engineering and Automobile.

  • The Automobile Engineering Association (AEA) is actively conducting various events like Seminar, Workshop, Guest Lecture, Industrial visits, implant training, etc. for the benefit of the students community.
  • Industrial Visits are arranged for students to gain Practical Exposure
  • The Department conducted National level seminar and Workshop on “Three axis modern trailer and air engine” and “Automotive Engines”
  • Value Added course were conducted in AUTO CADD by CADD Technologies, Coimbatore.
  • Guest Lectures on “Basis of Automotive Engines and Advanced IC engines” was organized for third and second year students
  • Gowtham ThamaraiKannan from third year Automobile has been selected as a State cricket Fast Bowler in under 20 Category for Tamil Nadu state & MRF Pace Foundation team.
  • Team “MUDSTERZ” from third year Automobile Engineering has participated in the National Level Dirt Bike (80cc Category) competitions. Event conducted by Department of Mechanical engineering at Tamil nadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore and won overall First place.
  • Team “MUDSTERZ” from third year Automobile Engineering has participated in the National Level Dirt Bike (80cc Category) competitions. Event conducted by Department of Automobile engineering at Tamil nadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore and won overall second place. Team “MUDSTERZ” from third year Automobile Engineering has participated in the National Level Dirt Bike (80cc Category) competitions (MOTOVATE 2K16) at Dr.N.G.P. Institute of Technology, Coimbatore and won overall second place.
  • Team “MUDSTERZ” from third year Automobile Engineering has participated in the National Level Bike Design, Fabrication and Riding (80cc Category) competitions (RIDE 2K16) and won overall second place. The students received cash prize and trophies. Event Conducted by Karpagam University, Coimbatore.
  • Team “BLAZING KARTERS” – The team got National level Second prize. Event conducted by P. A. College of Engineering and Technology at Pollachi – Tamil nadu.

  • Department of Automobile Engineering conducted Ist National level Dirt bike Event THROTTLE OUT 2K17 on 7th October, nearly 40 teams participated for various colleges.
